Largo ''Thrives''

Government Computer News is carrying a report on the success of the City of Largo, Florida, with open source. According to previous reports, one RedHat Linux 7.1 based server is used to serve desktops to 400 thin clients within the city's network.

A web based, open source accounting and inventory program called NOLA has been released. It appears that this program is fully web based, so it should be especially useful if you need remote access to accounting and inventory systems, or if you are working in a mixed platform environment.

Sun has recently announced the release of StarOffice 6.0 Beta (see the full story here). At least according to the hype, StarOffice 6.0 should provide an excellent alternative to Microsoft Office, especially for those seeking to switch to Linux-based desktops.
